Hazard Communication training is legally mandatory for construction employers whose workers may be exposed to hazardous chemicals on the job. From paints, solvents, fuels, adhesives, silica-containing materials, cleaning products, sealants, and other chemical products, construction workers must understand the hazards they face — and employers must be able to show that they have provided compliant training.
Non-compliance can be costly. Cal/OSHA citations may reach $16,285 for general violations, $25,000 for serious violations, and $162,851 for willful or repeat violations — per citation item. More importantly, a weak HazCom program can leave workers unprotected and companies exposed.
